CAMPAIGN ’88 : McCarthy Runs Again

Associated Press

Former Democratic Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy said Thursday that he will appear on the November ballot in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan as a candidate for President.

McCarthy, 72, who seriously challenged for the Democratic nomination in 1968 and ran for President in 1976, said at a news conference that he is running on a platform supporting the “Star Wars” missile defense system, protectionism and breaking the two-party system.

Dukakis and Bush are avoiding issues that will affect America’s future, McCarthy said.
