Semtech Buys Polycore to Raise Chip Production

Share

Semtech, a Newbury Park maker of semiconductors and other electronic components, said it acquired Polycore Electronics, a privately held semiconductor maker. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Polycore, also in Newbury Park, specializes in making semiconductor chips for other chip makers who temporarily need additional manufacturing capacity. Much of the company’s business also involves chips for products used in defense systems.

Semtech, which earned $1.2 million on sales of $9.7 million in the six months that ended July 31, said it sought the acquisition because its existing facilities “have been running all-out” to meet increased demand for its products.
