Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Ronald H. Keller was arrested on cocaine charges while on duty at the Hall of Justice Jail Saturday night, the Sheriff’s Department announced Monday.

A spokesman said Keller, 45, of Cerritos, a deputy since 1983, was arrested after supervisors observed him apparently under the influence of a drug. Keller had a small amount of cocaine on him at the time of his arrest, and paraphernalia was later found in his locker, investigators said.

Keller was booked at the main County Jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine and possession of drugs in a jail facility. Bail was set at $5,000. He was relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of a criminal investigation. The Sheriff’s Department said Keller faces a possible maximum sentence of four years if convicted on both drug counts.
