A jury in San Diego, Tex., convicted a man of rape in the first trial among 10 men accused in a case in which a 19-year-old woman alleges she was assaulted by as many as 23 men outside an illegal cockfight in March. The jury deliberated about 20 minutes before returning the verdict against Orlando Garza, 24. The Duval County jury also suggested a 20-year prison term. State District Judge Ricardo Garcia set sentencing Oct. 17. Garza still faces a kidnaping charge. Nine other men also were charged with sexual assault or kidnaping, and a 14-year-old boy was charged in juvenile court.
