Two-time double gold medalist Greg Louganis, who made a dramatic exit from the Olympics with a medal-winning dive, returned to Los Angeles today and said he hasn’t ruled out competing in the 1992 Games.

“It’s not out of the question,” the 28-year-old champion said during a Los Angeles International Airport news conference. He then tempered his remark by saying, “Right now, though, I feel it’s time to move on.”

Louganis said he was anxious to return to his Malibu home and try out his new swimming pool and its 1-meter platform. He said he was not tired after the 14-hour flight and is already thinking about his new career.

“I want to pursue my acting,” Louganis said, adding that he has been working for 10 years to dip into television and film. “I’m not looking for any starring roles, I want to take my career seriously. I started out as a dancer.”

“Musical theater would be fun. I would even enjoy getting lost in the chorus for awhile,” he said.

Louganis re-enacted his 1984 diving performance during the Los Angeles Summer Games by again winning two gold medals in South Korea this week.

Trailing by 3 points with one dive to go, he stood on the 10-meter platform this week and made the medal-winning 2-second clutch dive that put him over the top.

“As soon as I hit the water, I knew I did a good dive. I was happy. I was feeling relief,” Louganis said.

Louganis may be making his last competitive dive next April. He has 47 U.S. diving titles, one short of Tracy Caulkins’ record 48 national aquatic titles.

Louganis could eclipse that U.S. record April 19-23 when he competes in the indoor national championships at Mission Bay Club in Boca Raton, Fla., his home pool. Three titles are at stake.

“I’m so close to Tracy Caulkins’ national record, I just want to break it,” he said.
