Local News in Brief : Irvine : UCI Extension Adds 3 Certificate Programs
UC Irvine’s Extension program this fall is launching three new certificate programs: fund raising, advertising and public relations.
Judy Lloyd, spokeswoman for UCI Extension, said that no other institution in Southern California offers university-level training in fund raising, which she called a major career field.
“As federal cutbacks have affected more and more nonprofit organizations, fund raising has emerged as a new profession in the 1980s,” Lloyd said.
The new certificate programs in advertising and public relations “build on UCI Extension’s popular Marketing Communications Certificate program, which currently has 100 people enrolled,” she said.
“Courses in these (advertising and public relations) programs are advanced, focusing on practical aspects of the job.”
