Summer Weather to Stick Around for Last Stand

Never mind that the autumn equinox occurred last week or that Saturday is the first day of October. Summer weather has decided to make a last-ditch stand.

A mild Santa Ana condition is expected to linger over most of the weekend, tapering off slightly by Sunday.

“We have a high-pressure system over the Western states that is giving us this mild Santa Ana,” said forecaster Harvey Hastrup of the National Weather Service. “With time it will slowly weaken during the weekend and we will start having a cooling trend which will be pronounced by Sunday.”

Meanwhile, the dense fog and low clouds that have been hovering over San Diego the last several nights will continue to be the weekend rule along the beaches and coastal strip, Hastrup said.

After the morning burn-off, the coast can look forward to fair and sunny days. The fog and low clouds won’t provide any relief for the inland areas, however, as temperatures are expected to reach 86 to 96 today.

‘Somewhat Above Normal’

“Temperatures are somewhat above normal right now,” Hastrup said, “but they will be close to normal by Sunday. This is just a little bit of an extension of summer.”

High temperatures along the coast will range from 74 to 78 degrees today and Saturday, and from 71 to 76 degrees on Sunday. Overnight lows will range from 58 to 62 degrees throughout the weekend.

The ocean water temperature is 64 degrees. The surf is 2 to 3 feet.

The inland areas will have low temperatures ranging from 50 to 58 degrees through the weekend.
