The Rape of Poland

Share

It’s very late in the game, but I cannot help but point out that in the series “World at War,” which airs every Sunday night at 10 on KCET, there have been serious historical omissions.

The main one, this past Sunday, had to do with Hitler’s invasion of Poland. Nowhere during the hour was Russia’s name mentioned. Nowhere was the Hitler-Stalin pact of August, 1939, so much as whispered.

Has everyone forgotten that Russia and Germany signed that pact and agreed to divide Poland; Russia to occupy and destroy one half, Hitler to occupy the other half and incarcerate and destroy Jews while Russia looked on?

Russia, as we all know, was one of the prime reasons for the beginning of World War II. If she hadn’t signed that pact, Hitler would never have dared move into Poland; the war would not have begun.

How quickly history is erased. Poor Poland. Has anyone noticed? Russia is still there.
