Local News in Brief : Teamsters Told Not to Threaten Workers

Share

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has granted a temporary restraining order preventing striking drivers, electricians and laborers from intimidating or threatening Hollywood actors and employees who cross the picket lines.

In response to threats and assaults by strikers during the first three days of the walkout, Judge Kurt Lewin late Wednesday granted the order sought by Stephen J. Cannell, Lorimar and MTM/CBS studios. Lewin prohibited the 3,200 strikers belonging to Teamsters Local 399 and its sister unions from obstructing the movement of people and vehicles entering and leaving the studios or location sites.

A motion for a permanent injunction will be heard Oct. 18. Several other studios--including Disney, Universal and Paramount--have indicated that they will go to court this week seeking the same order.
