Disservice to Nurses

Share

Regarding the Sept. 18 story in the Job Market section, “Trading Up: A Quest for Fulfillment”:

I was dismayed to see Kate Colwell’s decision to leave the nursing profession for the medical profession described as “trading up.”

Nursing and medicine are related but different fields. Both professions demand bright, motivated and caring individuals to meet growing health care needs. Nurses are in no way “less than” doctors.

Ten years ago, my college anatomy professor advised me that I was “too smart” to go to nursing school--that I should consider medical school.

The attitude that nurses are somehow “less than” doctors contributes to the crippling nursing shortage of today. Your article was a disservice to the nursing profession.
