Share

A new trade federation was created for education workers, making it the third independent union to be established in Communist Hungary since May, the state news agency MTI reported. It said 195 delegates attended the founding meeting in Budapest on behalf of the 30,000 Hungarian teachers employed in higher education. According to its draft constitution, the new union is to be an independent, democratic organization so it can more effectively represent teaching professionals, the agency said. Film makers, television and video art workers earlier this month set up an independent Motion Picture Democratic Union called MODESZ. The first independent union, the Democratic Union of Scientific Workers, was founded in May.
