Speaking of Baryshnikov, the various cultural elites of the Soviet Union are blaming themselves these days for the loss of a whole generation of talent such as the expatriate dancer. In its September issue, Teatralnaya Zhizn (Theater Life), publishes a profile of the former dancer at the Kirov ballet in Leningrad and regretted that theater’s failure to keep its brightest stars. The magazine also printed an interview given by Baryshnikov to the U.S. publications Rolling Stone and Dance and Dancers, giving the Soviet reader a rare glimpse into the dancer’s life in the West.
