Authorities said a former volunteer firefighter is suspected of setting most of the 21 blazes that have terrorized the town of Jefferson, N.H., since May, prompting residents to sleep in shifts and keep night patrols. Plainclothes officers hustled Lance Lalumiere, 23, into the police station in nearby Lancaster, where he was arraigned on one felony charge of setting fire to his brother’s cabin. The state will seek to indict Lalumiere in 15 other fires as well, officials said.
