Taxing Smokers: Proposition 99

Here’s a question that has never been answered to my satisfaction:

Do the tobacco companies want people to get cancer, emphysema and heart disease?

They’re certainly spending millions to defeat Proposition 99, which would help to discourage the use of their dangerous product.
