2 Filipino Guards Die in Shoot-Out Near Base
Two Filipino guards at the U.S.-run Clark Air Base were killed and another wounded in a shoot-out with troopers outside the facility, police said Thursday.
Police said the shooting erupted late Wednesday about 100 yards from the base’s main gate after a patrolman noticed that three passengers in a jeep appeared to be carrying concealed weapons.
The patrolman reported the sighting to a passing patrol car, which stopped to search the passengers, including the three guards, who were in civilian clothes. The guards drew pistols and shooting erupted, the report said.
