Alcoa’s third-quarter profit more than doubled to $226.3 million from $109 million in 1987 and included a $9.9-million charge for a new profit-sharing plan for U.S. salaried employees. Revenue totaled $2.6 billion, up 32%. The Pittsburgh company, which is the world’s largest producer of aluminum products, said the results reflect continuing strong demand and prices for aluminum.
