The office of Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner this week filed charges in four cases of narcotics possession involving a total of two tons of cocaine, “greatly” surpassing any one-week total in the history of the office, Reiner said Friday.

“It is unfortunate proof that L.A. has truly become the cocaine capital of this country,” Reiner said. “But it also shows that the law enforcement community is determined to win the drug war.”

In the biggest seizure, police found 1,700 pounds of cocaine in an underground room and $550,000 in cash at a home in the La Habra Heights area.

In the other three cases, police seized 1,516 pounds, 600 pounds and 175 pounds of the drug, Reiner said.
