Roman Catholic Memorial Rites

Re: “Bishop Prays at Headstone for Fetuses” (Oct. 3): The Times took great editorial liberties in its heading for the story of Bishop McFarland dedicating a memorial headstone “dedicated to millions of God’s children deprived of the gift of life.”

The stone is not a “headstone for fetuses.” It is a sad memorial to the daily carnage that takes place throughout America, for which we are even now beginning to answer.

Wendy Lozano is “saddened to see the emphasis misplaced (on) . . . mourning over the loss of potential life.” Her remarks would also fit the Holocaust in Germany.

The Diocese of Orange has brought into focus the reality of the killing that is abortion. The Times should not editorialize its headlines.
