From our “Gotta Dance” bureau, Marathon department, this: Walter Freeman, the self-proclaimed tap dance champion of the world, has shattered his own putative tap-distance record by two miles. Freeman tapped some 9.1 miles Saturday through downtown Oakland, covering the considerable distance in a bit more than two hours. (Last year Freeman tapped seven miles, from his Oakland home to Berkeley, breaking the record of 6 miles set by a troupe of women in San Francisco on Aug. 16, 1986.) But consider those souls traveling with Freeman, including his girlfriend, a neighbor and his dance instructor, who had to listen to “In The Mood” for two hours running, or should we say, tapping.
