The Pirate Radio Ship of Long Island Sound has struck again--and so did the U.S. Coast Guard, which Monday night shut down the renegade radio station for the second time in as many years. Last year, operators of the radio ship maintained they were anchored and operating in international waters, and thus were exempt from Federal Communications Commission licensing and oversight authority. But this year, as last year, the FCC begged to differ, and obtained a restraining order from federal court in New York City to halt the unlicensed broadcasting. This year, the station had been transmitting at an unassigned AM frequency for four consecutive nights from the Sarah, registered in Great Britain as a broadcast vessel, before it was ordered to cease.
