Ameritech posted a 23% decline in third-quarter earnings to $281.1 million. Revenue grew 3% to $2.51 billion. The Chicago-based company, the parent of Bell telephone companies serving Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, said its earnings were reduced by charges related to the sale of its systems software subsidiary, Applied Data Research Inc.
