Bankers Trust New York Corp.’s third-quarter net income increased 11% from last year to $162.1 million. The New York firm, the nation’s ninth-largest banking concern, attributed the results to gains in non-interest and net interest income as well as a lower provision for credit losses. Pittsburgh-based Mellon Bank Corp. reported a loss of $166 million, contrasted with a year-ago profit of $16 million. The nation’s 15th-largest bank said its results included a $203-million restructuring expense from the anticipated sale of several assets to Grant Street National Bank.
