A man thought by Peruvian authorities to be the No. 2 leader and military strategist of the Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) guerrillas was imprisoned for a maximum 15 years for ordering terrorist attacks that killed five policemen. A three-judge tribunal imposed the sentence against Osman Morote, 42, after finding him guilty of being the “intellectual author” of several attacks by the Maoist-oriented group in Lima state in 1981-82.
