Bush has spent the fall deriding Dukakis for membership in American Civil Liberties Union. Bush himself belongs to the National Rifle Assn., and paid $300 for the privilege. While he pounds Dukakis for his ties to an organization that is bipartisan and untainted by self-interest, the vice president’s pledge of allegiance to one of the country’s most regressive lobbies goes unchallenged.
