Capital Cities/ABC’s third-quarter net income jumped 63% as revenue rose nearly 7%. The New York-based media company, which owns the ABC television network and other broadcast and print properties, said it earned $62.6 million in the quarter ended Sept. 30, up from $38.4 million a year ago. Revenue totaled $1.01 billion, up from $946.21 billion. Its broadcasting operations posted a 24% rise in income; income from publishing operations was flat. The 1987 and 1988 results reflect reductions in entertainment programming and sports rights at its ABC TV network.
