Local News in Brief : Sunset Beach : Victim of Fatal Stabbing and Fire Is Identified
The victim of a fatal stabbing, whose charred remains were found after a fire at his Sunset Beach apartment, was identified Wednesday as Robert Jay Haugen, 29, police said.
Haugen was identified with dental records, Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Rivas said.
An autopsy report showed that Haugen died from multiple stab wounds to the torso, so investigators are handling the case as a homicide, Rivas said. They report no suspects.
The fire caused about $25,000 damage to the small, second-floor apartment in the 16000 block of 9th Street, officials said. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Firefighters found the body in a bed shortly after extinguishing the blaze about 1 p.m. Monday.
