Maine Harbor Badly Polluted
Maine’s Portland Harbor and picturesque Casco Bay contain some of the highest levels of contaminants in the nation, environmentalists warned today.
The Conservation Law Foundation of New England released a study that found pollution of the state’s most developed bay is “surprisingly worse than we thought,” said foundation chief Douglas Foy. Unless corrective action is taken immediately, “we have every reason to believe that it will go the route of all the severely contaminated harbors in New England,” including the nation’s most polluted, Boston Harbor, Foy said.
