Sanus Corp. Health Systems, a New York health maintenance organization, tentatively has agreed to buy rival Maxicare Health Plans Inc.’s Houston operations for more than $20 million, the Houston Chronicle reported. The deal could close around Nov. 1, a Sanus spokesman told the paper. Officials of Los Angeles-based Maxicare declined to confirm the pending sale or comment on its talks with Sanus. The sale of Maxicare Texas Inc. would bring to 10 the number of operations sold by its troubled parent company this year.
