Philippine Troops, Rebels Clash; 19 Killed

TACLOBAN, Philippines —
Government troops fought off an ambush by heavily armed Communist rebels in a mountain village, killing 15 guerrillas but suffering four dead and eight wounded, a military official said Monday.
About 150 rebels of the Communist New People’s Army staged the ambush in a village outside MacArthur town on Samar island, the official said.
