The U.S. Navy, citing Iran’s and Iraq’s observation of their cease-fire, reduced its fleet in the Persian Gulf region to 25 ships today when the frigate Rodney Davis left the waterway for its home port in Japan, the Defense Department said.

Pentagon spokesman Fred Hoffman told reporters the departure left 15 U.S. warships in the Gulf. Navy officials said another 10 American vessels were in or near the northern Arabian Sea outside the Persian Gulf.
