BOGOTA, Colombia — Leftist rebels killed 11 troops and wounded 20 others today in an ambush of a convoy of military engineers building a road in eastern Colombia, military sources said.
An army spokesmen said on Colombian radio that suspected members of the pro-Moscow Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia staged the attack on the convoy in an isolated area called El Castillo in eastern Meta province. The ambush was one of the bloodiest since rebels attacked a convoy in June last year in southeastern Caqueta province, killing 27 soldiers and wounding 42.
