A judge in Stuart, Fla., denied a request by the ex-husband of a Florida state lottery winner to block payment of the first installment of the $31.5-million jackpot claimed by the woman and her sister. Martin County Judge Martha Warner said there was no legal precedent to warrant Lewis Snipes’ claim that he deserves a share of the prize because he purchased the tickets and encouraged the Indiantown women to play the Lotto game. The first of 20 $1.57-million annual installments for Ellen Snipes and her sister, Maxine Johnson, is scheduled to be paid today.
