Hirohito Stable After Receiving More Blood
Emperor Hirohito received 0.8 pints in additional blood transfusions Tuesday, and his condition has continued to stabilize since reaching its lowest point in six weeks, palace officials said.
Earlier Tuesday, the 87-year-old monarch was visited by his son and heir, Crown Prince Akihito, and talked about the palace garden--one of his pet projects--with his doctors, said chief palace spokesman Kenji Maeda.
Hirohito, the last surviving major leader of World War II, has been given blood transfusions almost daily since suffering a relapse from suspected abdominal cancer on Sept. 19.
