A woman has sued Genentech Inc., South San Francisco, claiming that it used samples of her rare blood without her permission to develop its anti-clotting agent, Activase. Gina Potts alleged in a Superior Court suit that doctors treating her for a blood disorder in 1984 repeatedly collected samples from her for Genentech research without telling her. She was falsely told the blood samples were needed for her treatment, the suit said. Potts has extremely rare blood containing high levels of a substance known as TPA, tissue plasminogen activator.
