Several Democratic legislators running for reelection in conservative districts have been using Republican Gov. George Deukmejian’s name and likeness in campaign mailers, and the governor said he is upset. “Rhetoric on behalf of consumer protection and truth in advertising has long been a hallmark of Democratic candidates. However, when it comes to some of their campaign mailers, certain Democratic officeholders should practice what they preach,” Deukmejian said in a statement released by his office. Included in the mailers were copies of thank you letters written by the governor for votes cast on his behalf and photos of the officeholders with Deukmejian. Among those the governor singled out were Assembly members Richard E. Floyd of Hawthorne, Phillip Isenberg of Sacramento, Norm Waters of Plymouth and Lucy Killea of San Diego.
