Drexel Burnham Aide Indicted

A trader’s assistant in Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc.’s junk bond department was indicted today by a federal grand jury on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office said.

Lisa Jones, 29, was charged with eight criminal counts for giving materially wrong information to a New York grand jury investigating corruption in the securities industry. In September the Securities and Exchange Commission brought civil charges against Drexel and its “junk bond” chief, Michael Milken, for defrauding Drexel clients, trading illegally on insider information and violating a number of other securities laws. Junk bonds are high-yield, high-risk securities.
