All 11 members of a San Francisco-based African pop band were injured late Tuesday night when their van blew a tire and crashed on Interstate 5 near Bakersfield. O.J. Ekemode and his Nigerian All-Stars suffered injuries ranging from bumps to dislocated hips and concussions from the mishap, which occurred while the band was traveling from Berkeley to San Diego for a performance date. According to promoter Milt Wilson, the band was set for dates in San Diego, Los Angeles (at the Music Machine in West Los Angeles on Saturday), Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. All of those dates will have to be postponed, Wilson said Thursday. In addition to their personal injuries, the band’s equipment was scattered all over the road and much of it was destroyed.
