Canada’s ruling Progressive Conservatives and opposition Liberals are running neck-and-neck less than two weeks before the Nov. 21 general election, according to new opinion polls. The results boosted the value of the Canadian dollar after a wave of selling earlier this week following news of a Gallup poll showing the Liberals with a 12-point lead. Analysts said the Canadian dollar was under pressure over fears the proposed Canada-U.S. free trade agreement will be scrapped if Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s Conservatives fail to win a majority.
