Two syringes and about 150 sealed containers of medical materials, including painkillers, have been recovered this week on Oregon beaches, officials said.

An ocean-battered syringe without a needle was found, and a second syringe in what appeared to be original wrapping also was recovered Wednesday by the director of Cape Lookout State Park, a Tillamook County official said.

The connection of the syringes with the other beach materials was unknown.

State Department of Environmental Quality spokeswoman Carolyn Young said no harmful substances had been found, just unused medical supplies.

A chemist said the recovered containers appeared to hold unused medical materials, unlike the wastes that washed onto some East Coast beaches last summer.

A bottle marked with a skull and crossbones was found on a Tillamook County beach late Tuesday. The liquid in it will be tested at the Department of Environmental Quality lab in Portland, a spokeswoman said.
