A white South African gunman killed three blacks and wounded 16 others, firing into mainly black crowds in a rampage in central Pretoria. Police arrested Barend Strydom, 23, after a chase and seized a 9-millimeter pistol. They said he is a former constable who resigned from the South African police last February after he was found guilty of improper conduct. Law and Order Minister Adriaan Vlok said the man is a self-confessed member of the Resistance Movement, a group of white supremacists. Strydom also claimed that he is the leader of the White Wolves, a rebel group that has claimed responsibility for several bomb attacks on anti-apartheid churches and other groups, Vlok said.
