The Rev. Haralan Popov; Campaigned for Human Rights

The Rev. Haralan Popov, 81, who was imprisoned in 1948 in his native Bulgaria for alleged crimes against the Soviet regime of Joseph Stalin and after his release spent the remainder of his life arranging the clandestine distribution of Bibles behind the Iron Curtain. Popov was imprisoned in 1949 and spent the next 13 years in a gulag. After his release he launched a campaign for human rights and religious freedom, and also wrote several books. “Tortured for His Faith” has sold more than 1 million copies and been translated into 13 languages.
