In what appears to be something of a trend, Aristeo Valenzuela Hernandez, wanted in connection with two East County murders, called Channel 10 Thursday night to arrange to surrender to police. Recently, in well-publicized cases, murder suspects in Sacramento and Los Angeles have used the media to surrender to authorities. Apparently Hernandez was afraid for his safety if he turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Department without cameras present. Channel 10 arranged to meet Hernandez and his attorney at San Diego Police headquarters. Reporter Larry Roberts interviewed Hernandez’s attorney, but resisted the urge to interview the suspect before he turned himself in.
