Three leaders of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah group escaped an assassination attempt when an explosives-laden car blew up near their convoy in east Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, police reported. A car packed with 330 pounds of explosives was detonated by remote control as a 10-car motorcade carrying Subhi Tufeili, Hassan Nasrallah and Abbas Moussawi passed, police said. Hezbollah’s Voice of Islam radio said the three were unhurt, but police said two bodyguards and a bystander were injured. No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Hezbollah, or Party of God, is believed to be behind the abduction of most of the 16 foreigners, including nine Americans, still being held in Lebanon.
