A pilot videotape for a series of programs called “Project MATHEMATICS!” that is headed by Caltech professor Tom M. Apostol won the top award at the 1988 International Film and TV Festival of New York.

The series is based at Caltech and is being produced by a consortium of departments of education in 32 states. Apostol and co-director James F. Blinn, a computer animator, said they plan to produce the videotapes on the Caltech campus with money from several grants and donations.

The gold medal-winning pilot program, “The Theorem of Pythagoras,” was one of 3,100 entries from 22 countries that were submitted to the Film and TV Festival’s annual competition.
