The International Committee of the Red Cross said it has indefinitely suspended all activities in the southern Lebanese port of Sidon because of last week’s abduction of its delegate, Peter Winkler. Officials at Red Cross headquarters in Geneva said the six other delegates in Sidon have orders to stay in town and not visit prisoners or refugee camps in the area. Winkler, 32, was kidnaped Nov. 17 by three armed and masked men from an unknown group. The Red Cross still has no information on who is holding Winkler or where, the officials said. Winkler is the fifth Swiss national and the fourth Red Cross member to be abducted in Lebanon since 1985. The other four were released shortly after their capture.
