Santa Ana Museum Education Program Honored by U.S.

An educational program developed by the Modern Museum of Art in Santa Ana has been honored by the U.S. Department of Education.

Of the dozen business-sponsored public school projects singled out for praise at the department’s fifth National Symposium on Partnerships in Education in Washington earlier this month, the Modern Museum’s “Communication in the Arts” is the only one that focuses on the arts.

Paul Conway, a department official, praised the program for being “cross-disciplinary” in its focus on “vocabulary, writing skills and enhancing the (student’s) ability to analyze.”

The program fits the guidelines of the symposium’s “partnership” concept because the museum has “taken it upon itself to find corporations to implement (the program) into the schools,” Conway said.
