Local News in Brief : Water Rate Increase Approved
- Share via
The state Public Utilities Commission has approved an average 3.5% water rate increase that will affect about 22,600 California Water Service customers on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
The commission approved the rate increase request by California Water last week to raise an extra $460,200 in annual revenue that the utility says is needed to offset an increase in the cost of purchased water and power, postal rates and other fees.
According to the state commission, residential water bills in the Palos Verdes District will rise more for those who use more water. For example, the rate for a customer using 300 cubic feet of water will rise from $10.05 to $10.24; the rate for 3,000 cubic feet will go from $50.06 to $51.93; and the rate for 5,000 cubic feet will go from $79.70 to $82.81.
