3 Polygamist Clan Members Go to Trial
Jury selection began Friday in the murder trial of three members of a polygamist clan accused in the killing of a law enforcement officer during a 13-day standoff at the clan’s farm.
John Timothy Singer, 22; Addam Swapp, 27, and his brother, Jonathan, 21, are charged in the Jan. 28 death of state corrections Lt. Fred House.
House was shot as police moved in to end the standoff. He was urging a police dog to attack the Swapp brothers when he was hit, and prosecutors contend that the wheelchair-bound Singer fired the fatal shot. Investigators testified that he told them he was firing at the police dogs.
