2 Arrested in Extortion Threats

Two men suspected of sending extortion letters containing death threats to 265 Antelope Valley residents were arrested this weekend in Las Vegas, officials said today.

The letters, which were mailed Nov. 1 to prominent residents, including doctors, lawyers, dentists, businessmen and former Lancaster Mayor Lou Bozigian demanded payments from $500 to more than $500,000. Roman S. Makuch, 27, and Richard M. Faroni, 26, were arrested and booked in Las Vegas on suspicion of extortion, officials said. Extradition proceedings were expected.
