Local News in Brief : New Tax Will Add 20 More Police Officers

Share

Twenty new officers will join the Inglewood police force as a result of the City Council’s unanimous approval Tuesday of a new property tax. The so-called police assessment district was approved by 78% of the voters in an advisory election Nov. 8.

The tax will raise $1.4 million for a police task force that will concentrate on gangs and drugs. Single-family homeowners will pay an additional $53 a year in property taxes while multifamily and commercial properties will pay according to separate formulas.

City officials are studying interim funding alternatives to get the additional officers on the street before the district formally goes into effect in July.
